Beesley, Simons and Donohue impress as Chesterfield reserves kick off with a win

Jake Beesley, Rai Simons and Dion Donohue shone for Chesterfield reserves as they won their season opener 3-2 against Doncaster Rovers at the Proact. Dean Saunders fielded a strong reserve side and has stated that he believes the reserve team is strong enough to win the Final Third Development League East Division.

Local lad Beesley was the star of the show putting in a magnificent performance at right back. The eighteen year old striker and converted right back studied at local school St. Marys RC High School and is a product of the Chesterfield FC youth system having joined the Spireite at the age of 14 years old. He was the leading goalscorer for the youth team last season which saw them have a successful FA Youth Cup run and League campaign.

Alex Cairns (GK): A steady performance from the twenty two year old goalkeeper who was picked up by the Spireites following his release from Leeds United last season. He made a couple of good saves, one of which was a spectacular acrobatic stop.

Jake Beesley (RB):  Beesley had another wonderful display at right back. Strong both defensively and going forward into attack. Has a brilliant change of pace and a very direct approach which saw him beat his man on many occasions. Time will tell if Beesley is allowed to challenge himself at right back against a stronger opposition but he has not failed to impress so far in that position.

Ritchie Humphreys (LB): What Ritchie lacks in speed and acceleration he makes up in leadership qualities. After a shaky start Humphreys grew into the game and was a wonderful mentor for young Lawrence Maguire alongside him. Never lost a header at left back and then pushed onto left wing in the second half.

Michael Onovwigun (CB): Not as strong a performance as we had seen from Onovwigun in pre-season, looked a little rusty, but hasn't played competitively for some time. Looked composed coming forward out of the back line and using his midfielder qualities while at centreback.

Lawrence Maguire (CB): Maguire has wonderful leadership and defensive abilities for a player who is just eighteen years old. He rarely loses a header and is a great communicator. He looked composed and strong throughout up against the vastly more experienced Dany N'Guessan.

Rai Simons (RM): This is the best we've seen of Simons in a Spireites shirt. He has very similar qualities to Gboly Ariyibi, a pacey dribbler with lots of flicks and tricks. Posed lots of problems for the Doncaster defence with his energetic pace and electric dribbling. His performance was topped off with a well taken overhead kick.

Byron Harrison (LM): It's clear Byron Harrison does not enjoy his time on the wing. He looks disinterested and disheartened to be playing that position. However when he did find himself in and around the goal he scored two goals.
Mani Dieseruvwe (CM): Mani was comfortable in centre midfield which is a credit a player who normally plays as a striker. He has a good footballing brain and was very tactically aware.

Dion Donohue (CM): Dion showed a fantastic array of passing skills and provided good set plays, such as corners. He was composed and efficient. He looks to be taking the step up in his stride.

Jake Orrell (CF): Jack Orrell is a wonderful find for the Spireites, he's good on the ball, has a great range of passing and fantastic composure for an eighteen year old. He set up Harrison for his second goal with a brilliantly weighted long pass.

Armand Gnanduillet (ST): An experienced head in this young team  but a patchy game by Armand and he didn't really impact it as he could have. Positionally good and made space for others around him.
