Spireites Take On Leaders Burton Albion

Our man in the know, Dean Fidler, takes a look at Chesterfield vs Burton.

The Spireites face a difficult task when they take on the League Leaders Burton Albion.

The surprise League One leaders are extremely well organised on the pitch and defensively are looking very solid having kept 4 clean sheets in their last 5 matches.

Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said: “If you want to be successful you have to have that discipline to give yourself a platform to be able to go and win a game, whatever game it is.”

Stuart Beavon, Mark Duffy, Lucas Atkins, Jerome Binnom-Williams and Nasser El Khayati will press, as far as the Spireites 18 yard box, when without the ball.

The Brewers will have on loan Crystal Palace defender Jerome Binnom-Williams available after overcoming illness. On form striker Stuart Beavon has managed to shake off a minor back injury. They will be without defender Darius Charles out with a broken leg. On-loan wolves player Zeli Ismail is out with a knee injury.

The Spireites will also have to be well disciplined by not giving the ball away dangerous in areas, keep the ball and dictate the play. They will need to stretch them using the width well, let Gboly run at them and draw players to him, opening up the centre for O’Shea to exploit and unleash a thunderbolt or create something for Ebanks-Blake.

I think this could be a great oppurtunity for Rai Simons because they will know nothing about him, he has played really well in the reserves, scoring 2 goals at Scunthorpe in his last game. Hes got the speed the skills and the ability to cause the brewers defence a real headache. He deserves at least a place on the bench, hopefully he can come on for the last 20 minutes.

Saunders said: “They’re well organised, they’re solid, they’ll steal the ball off of you and then they’ll try to counter attack on you. All their wins have been by the odd goal, they don’t let many goals in, are good from set plays and play together as a group.”

“Scott Beavon’s a decent decent striker who can get goals and they got a bit of continuity about them from last season. I’ve explained to the players what they are all about”.

The Spireites will be without Lee Novak after the striker picked up a thigh injury at Coventry. Drew Talbot returns from suspension and will compete with Chris Herd for the right-back spot.

The Brewers have won 6 of their last 8 games and come here full of confidence. Although the Spireites have struggled in recent matches drawing 1 and losing 2. They did manage to score 5 goals in their last 2 home games. They will have to dictate the play and take the game to the Brewers. If they can score first that could be the key to winning this game.

The Spireites have lost 2 and drawn 1 against Burton Albion since moving to this new stadium now known as the Proact.

The last time the referee David Webb was in charge of a game at the Proact the Spireites lost 2 nil to Burton Albion.
