A must win game for the Spireites : Crewe Alexandra preview
Our man in the know Dean Fidler takes a closer look as the Spireites take on Crewe Alexandra.
Steve Davis said on the Spireites visit to Gresty Road:”They play good football under Dean and will be dangerous but it is another challenge for us and we have to focus on ourselves. We need to make sure we are focused on what we need to do to get that first win at home and the players are determined to put things right after Tuesday night.”
Goalkeeper Dave Richards remains out due to a foot injury. Billy Bingham has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury that is likely to delay his return to action by another 10 days. Fellow midfielder James Jones is still out with a shoulder problem. Defender Harry Davis is undergoing surgery to remove a piece of floating bone from his knee.
Dean Saunders said:”Things are not going our way at the minute and sometimes you have spells where you’re really lucky with shots bobbing in, but those things are not happening for us at the moment.
“In long run this spell may do us good, I’m learning more now about what’s wrong with what we’re doing wrong and what we’re doing right.
“With their passing stats they’re up at the top of the league. They are struggling for the results but they pass the ball and they all know what they’re doing – they have done it since they were young.
“They’ve got a young squad and we have to make it difficult for them to play.”
The Spireites will be hoping to put in a good display against a struggling Crewe Alexandra who have lost their last 3 home games. The Spireites put in a disappointing dismal display at Blackpool in midweek losing 2 nil.
Crewe are a young team, although they are still developing their own players, having had success with players such as Danny Murphy, Rob Jones and David Platt. Their latest is a 20 year old winger called Ryan Colclough who has already made 32 League appearances scoring 5 goals.

A player the Spireite faithful will be familiar with is midfielder Chris Atkinson, who made 15 appearances, scoring 5 goals for chesterfield when he came on-loan from Huddersfield in the 2012 season. He has made 9 appearances for the Railwaymen so far, and still yet to score.

Striker Mani Dieseruvwe is back after suspension. Novak remains sidelined with a thigh injury. Angel Martinez along-term absentee due to his serious knee injury.
The Spireite faithful who travelled to Blackpool will be hoping for a much improved performance from the Spireites. Saunders will play two upfront because Ebanks-Blake as looked very isolated on his own. Mani Dieseruvwe could partner him upfront although I think Rai Simons deserves a start after making 2 appearances off the bench in the last 2 games.
