Oldham Preview

Chesterfield are in good health and good form after their 6-0 demolishing of Colchester, which was the Spireites sixth unbeaten game in a row. The only fresh injury comes to Drew Talbot who is likely to miss the rest of the league season with a hamstring injury but could return if Chesterfield should reach the play-offs

Oldham are without left back Joseph Mills and top scorer Jonathan Forte may have played his final ever game for the club after it has been revealed he is likely to miss the rest of the season with an injury.

Ex Spireite Dean Holden commented on the Spireites when speaking to the Manchester Evening News
“There are a lot of people behind the scenes still there who are good friends so it will be nice to see them after the game.
I have some very good memories of Chesterfield and in the short time I was there it was a great period in my life.
It’s a match that I’m really looking forward to as they will have a great following behind them
They have got a lot of energy in the team and some really good players with a fantastic goalkeeper behind them so it will be a tough ask for us but one I’m really looking forward to."

Twelve different Spireites have been on the score sheet in the last twenty matches, in contrast to the early season reliance on Eoin Doyle for goals. Jay O'Shea leads the way with seven, Clucas with five, Roberts and Hird with three each, Jimmy Ryan has scored two in the last twenty Chesterfield games and Gardner, Darikwa, Raglan, Harrison, Ayribi, Gnanduillet and Morsy have all also scored a goal, so picking a danger man is a hard task for ex Spireite Holden.

One good stat for the Spireites is that in Oldham's last twenty home games, 90% of the 30 goals scored by Oldham have come in open play, whilst 10% have come from set-pieces.

The Spireites past league form in recent times at Oldham is nothing less than terrible

This visit sees the strongest Chesterfield team in recent memory travel to the Latics and they will be hoping for much more success than previous league encounters.

One eye for Spireites will be on the game in Gillingham where they take on Chesterfield's play off rivals Rochdale, if the Spireites should win and Rochdale lose then the Spireites would secure at least 6th spot in the league and would be guaranteed a play off spot.

1100 tickets have been sold by the Spireites and but the game is pay on the day, lets hope we take a large following and pick up the three points.
