The award for Spireite Gazette Player Of The Season as voted by Spireite Gazette readers goes to.... Sam Clucas!


Sam Clucas took the Spireite Gazette award with 33% of the overall votes, with Tendayi Darikwa a close run second with 27% of the vote.

Since signing for the Spireites from arch rivals Mansfield Town for an undisclosed fee in September 2014, a deal which Mansfield chairman John Radford  said was a 'tough decision' but was 'in the best interest of the club'. Paul Cook has later revealed the fee was around 70k. Clucas has made a massive impact for the Spireites which has seen them seal a League One play off spot.

Chesterfield fans immediately warmed to Sam due to his tireless work rate and eye for goal. Clucas has played 45 games and scored 12 goals despite often playing at left back or left midfield. Clucas got his chance as the Chesterfield lone striker after loanee Caolan Lavery rejoined Sheffield Wednesday after his short loan at the Spireites. On Clucas' first appearance as the lone striker against Gillingham where he netted two times.

Clucas also won the Sheffield Star football award for Chesterfield Player Of The Year and will be in contention for the official Chesterfield FC Player Of The Season on Monday.
