Where are they now?
Chesterfield FC are having one of the most successful seasons in the history of the club. Some players helped us along the way this season, we've taken a look are where they are now....
The sad story of Georg Margrettier continues. Margrettier's Wolves misery started when he made a member of Wolves 'group three' or 'Wolves bomb squad' by Wolves manager Kenny Jackett following their 2013/14 relegation. The 'Wolves bomb squad' was made up of a group of unwanted players who were separated from the first-team squad, they included Roger Johnson who went onto West Ham and now Charlton, Jamie O’Hara who signed for Blackpool, Razak Boukari who had a short spell at Sochaux, Tongo Doumbia left to join Toulouse, Stephen Ward who is now at Burnley and Kevin Doyle who has since played for QPR and Crystal Palace.
After impressing with the Spireites and showing himself to be the model professional footballer, Margrettier has not been offered a squad number since his return from Chesterfield and hasn't played a game for Wolves which now dates back to September 2012. Unfortunately the Austrian hasn't tweeted since leaving the Spireites. (Georg Margreitter)
Since departing from Chesterfield back in August 2014, Liam Cooper has made a solid start to his Leeds United career playing in 30 games. He is currently Leeds United captain and now attracting interest from the Scotland national team.
Scotland assistant boss Mark McGhee said: "Liam’s on our radar. We’ve had him watched and he’s done well. We’re out and about watching a lot of games and Liam’s one of the guys who has come to our attention."
Romauld Boco
Oscar Gobern
Boco's spell in India isn't yet proving to be the most successful. Bharat FC find themselves second to bottom and the lowest scorers in the I-League. However they do have the second best defence in the Indian league. Boco has started all 12 games for Bharat, but is yet to score.
After signing for the Spireites to play the 'Nemanja Matić' role for Chesterfield sitting behind Sam Morsy and Jimmy Ryan and later replacing Ryan in the starting 11. Gobern played three times for the Spireites, losing two and drawing one. After sitting out for the first couple of months on his return to Huddersfield and then used sparingly for a further month or so, Gobern has forced his way into the starting line up and scored in his last appearance.
Mark Duffy
After failing to secure much playing time at the Spireites, Duffy returned to Birmingham. He yet to feature for the Blues since his loan at Chesterfield.
Caolan Lavery
"I texted on Tuesday (7th of April) to wish them well done for the Easter period. They are in the play-off positions and it would be great for them to go up."
Eoin Doyle
Eoin Doyle has now played fourteen games for Cardiff City since his deadline day from the Spireites. These include nine starts and four games coming off the bench. Doyle's Cardiff career got off to a slow start failing to find the net in his first eight outings. Doyle's goalscoring form has improved of late with him scoring two goals in his last six games.
Cardiff boss on Doyle:
He had one or two cleared off the line and things did not fall for him.
We took him out, but he came on and made a real impact here. He got the goal and he deserved it."
Connor Hunt
Daniel Johnson
It has been a momentous season for Daniel Johnson since playing against the Spireites in a pre-season friendly for Aston Villa, which took place as part of the Jordan Bowery sale. Johnson then joined the Spireites on a 3 month loan and where he played twelve games for the Spireites. Johnson is accredited to helping Eoin Doyle find his early season goalscoring form. Johnson then moved onto Oldham on loan where he 3 goals in 5 starts before returning to Villa.
In January he was picked up by Preston for just 50k. Since then Johnson has not looked back and has scored 8 goals in 17 games as well as picking up a host of awards and looks likely to pick up plenty more.
Paul Cook on Daniel Johnson:
"I made a decision about 4 games before the end of his time with us and I thought he was too good to play, I didn't want to put him in the shop window for others to pinch, but it backfired. I don't think we'd ever have got him, possibly I could have managed it better, but it's so difficult to get those signings over the line. It's easy with hindsight to say I should have played him more, he's a top lad."
