Match Report : FC United of Manchester 1-4 Chesterfield

Chesterfield earned themselves a place in the second round of the FA Cup and a game against Walsall with victory against FC United of Manchester. Gboly Ariyibi, Lee Novak, Rai Simons and Ollie Banks with the goals for Chesterfield with a consolation goal for the home side coming from Luke Ashworth.

Three changes were made for the trip to FC United's new Broadhurst Park as loanee Richard Wood, Gboly Ariyibi and Lee Novak took the places of Rai Simons, the injured Dan Gardner and former FC United Of Manchester player Charlie Raglan.

With just seven minutes played the Spireites took an early lead lead, as winger Gboly Ariyibi met a Ebanks-Blake cross from the left side and fired past the opposing goalkeeper from just outside the 6-yard box.

Just five minutes later the Spireites doubled their advantage after Daniel Jones on the left-hand delivered a perfectly weighted pass for Lee Novak to score a beautiful side-footed goal.







A great chance was missed when midfield rock Sam Morsy advanced from the Spireites own half before trying unleashing a left-footed shot that went narrowly wide of the post. The next action saw FC United player Sam Sheridan fire a hopeful effort from 20 yards out, the effort swerved in the wind and forced Tommy Lee to fumble but then gather the speculative shot.

With sixty nine minutes played Rai Simons scored the third for Chesterfield after a wonderful pass from Sam Morsy left the Bermuda striker through on goal and scoring a lovely dinked finish past the opposing goalkeeper.

Ollie Banks also bagged himself a goal against his former team, with just two minutes remaining of normal time the midfielder drove forward with the ball and a slight slip from the FC United of Manchester defender allowed him to strike from distance and score for the first time in over a year.

Deep into additional time the home side scored a consolation through Luke Ashworth as he got on the end of a FC United of Manchester corner-kick.
