National League manager now 8/1 for Chesterfield job


Current Forest Green Rovers manager Ady Pennock has jumped into the contention for the vacant Chesterfield managers job. This morning has seen the Rovers boss' odds dramatically shortened to 8/1 to become the next permanent Chesterfield manager, fuelling speculation that he could be the next man to lead the Spireites. He is now fifth favourite for the job, just behind Mark Cooper, Danny Wilson, Chris Wilder and Mark Smith.


Adrian (Ady) Pennock is a 44 year old is a former footballer who had long spells at Bournemouth and then Gillingham. Pennock started his managerial career at Welling United in January 2005, by the end of the season Pennock had guided them to their highest league position for six years. He went on to manage Welling for a further season with a 50.67% win ratio.

Pennock left Welling to take up a coaching position at Stoke City, under his former Gillingham manager, Tony Pulis. Pennock then worked his way up to first team coach at Stoke before leaving at the end of the 2012/13 season following the departure of Tony Pulis. 







On the 12th of November 2013 was appointed manager of Forest Green Rovers. He led the club to a 10th-place finish at the end of the of his first season. In the 2014/15 season Pennock took Forest Green to a record highest league finish of 5th in the Conference Premier, which saw them reaching the play offs. This season Forest Green currently sit second in the Conference Premier (National League). In his 114 games in charge Forest Green have won 55, drawn 31 and lost just 28.

Forest Green have recently been reported to be in 5.4m worth of debt and but have plans for a £100m stadium development.

The Spireites are now win-less for eight games and are likely to make a new manager appointment sooner rather than later.
