Injury Nightmare For Spireites

An injury crisis has hit the Spireites with no less than six of the Spireites first eleven carrying injuries.

Already on the Chesterfield FC injury list is new signing Angel Martinez, the popular Spaniard is out for around six months with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture suffered in training. He is joined on the injury list by fellow new signing Liam O'Neil, with early reports suggesting he is out for six weeks with a dislocated knee cap.

It's also being reported that Sam Hird is set to miss two weeks with cracked ribs after a heavy challenge suffered against Wigan. Hird would have been likely to start at right back following the injuries to O'Neil and injured regular right back Drew Talbot.

Talbot who is currently carrying a grade two injury to his ankle, could also be out for up to two or three weeks. Talbot who missed most of pre-season due to injury will be hoping to continue his battle to fitness as soon as possible.

Many Spireites were surprised not to see Sylvan Ebanks Blake in the starting eleven for Saturday's match against Wigan. Sylvan Ebanks Blake missed the game with a hamstring injury, it's unknown how long the Chesterfield front man may be out for.

Sylvan Ebanks Blake was replaced in the starting eleven at striker by Lee Novak, He found himself in the wars for a second game in a row at the Proact. Novak took two head injuries in the defeat to Wigan but should be fit to play next week against Colchester.

Next Tuesday's reserve team match against Doncaster will give Dean Saunders the chance to look at some of his fringe players. The 'emergency loan' window opens next Wednesday September 9. The loan deals can last between 28 days and 93 days.
