Saunders impressed with new signings quality

Dean Saunders has been really impressed with the standards of training of the new additions at Chesterfield FC.

Saunders has been particularly impressed with Chris Herd and has spoken of the quality that Herd's Premier League experience brings to an already strong Chesterfield squad. He commented ''you can tell his class in training'' ''he's lifted the standard of training up.''

Chesterfield now boast six former Premier League players in their ranks with Chris Herd formerly of Aston Villa, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who played three Premier League seasons at Wolves, Ian Evatt who was at Blackpool, Ritchie Humphreys at Sheffield Wednesday, Liam O'Neil who was at West Brom and Jay O'Shea also played against Manchester United during his time at Birmingham City.

Competition for places in the Chesterfield team is at an all time high with Chris Herd, Liam O'Neil, Sam Hird and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake all in contention for places. Three players may drop out of the starting eleven as well as suspended Drew Talbot. Charlie Raglan, Ollie Banks and one of Gboly Ariybi or Dan Gardner likely to miss out.

Spireite Gazette predicted 11 against Coventry:

Ebanks-Blake;

Novak, O'Shea, Gardner;

Morsy, O'Neil;

Jones, Evatt, Hird, Herd;
