Match Report : Fleetwood Town 0-1 Chesterfield

Chesterfield secured yet another away victory, this time over Fleetwood Town at their Highbury Stadium with striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's first-half finish being the difference between the two sides. The victory sees Chesterfield rise to 10th in the table.

Dean Saunders made two changes to the team that was defeated by against Scunthorpe United at the Proact. Sam Hird and Rai Simons came in for the suspended Daniel Jones and the unavailable Lee Novak whose wife gave birth on the night before the match. The suspension of Jones saw usual right back Drew Talbot moving to left back and Sam Hird coming in on the right. New on loan defender Richard Wood came onto the Spireites bench.

The first chance of the game fell to Fleetwood with Jack Sowerby trying his luck from distance, but failing to trouble the Spireites number one Tommy Lee. This was followed by a Chris Herd long ranger which also failed to test Fleetwood keeper Chris Maxwell.

With half an hour gone on the clock, Chris Herd delivered a wonderful ball into the box which saw the hardworking Sylvan Ebanks-Blake put the Spireites in front with a convincing finish past keeper Maxwell after picking up the ball on the edge six-yard box and placing it home. Chesterfield lead 1-0.

After half time Fleetwood had the ball in the net with Bell crossing towards Ball who headed past Tommy Lee, luckily for the Spireites, Ball had strayed off-side and which was quickly realised by the linesman on the far side.

The next phase of action saw make shift Sam Hird finding himself in the penalty box but producing a poor attempt that blazed over Fleetwood goalkeeper Chris Maxwell's crossbar by a considerable distance. That was followed by a Drew Talbot run which saw him take the ball onto his preferred right foot and smash the ball from the the edge of the area only to see his attempt whistle just wide of the post.

The Spireites had to see out four minutes of additional time, this saw them keeping possession wisely and claiming a useful three points which saw them rise to 10th.

The Spireites had 59% of possession and 7 shots, 5 of them on target.
