Match Report Oldham : On a sombre day at the Proact Stadium

Chesterfield were defeated by Oldham Athletic on a sombre day at the Spireites' Proact Stadium. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake gave Chesterfield a half time lead before Oldham striker Dominic Poleon levelled the score and a Tommy Lee own goal in the final minutes awarded the away team all the points.

One change was made by Spireites manager Dean Saunders from Monday's match against FC United of Manchester with Dan Gardner starting again in the first team in place of Gboly Ariyibi.

The match started off on a reflective note with an impeccability held one-minute silence for the devastating and malicious attacks on the people of Paris the previous night.

With only four minutes on the clock Sylvan Ebanks-Blake battled past the Oldham defence before firing well wide of the post. With the weather worsening the atmosphere fell flat as on the thirteenth minute an Oldham Athletic fan required urgent medical attention in the away stand. This also coincided with a Chesterfield fan requiring medical attention in the East Stand.

On the 21st minute a minutes applause was given by all four-sides of the ground for former Chesterfield goalkeeper Marton Fulop, his squad number for the Spireites being number 21. Fulop sadly passed away on Thursday aged just thirty two.

This was then followed by another applause for the Oldham Athletic fan who was rushed off to hospital, it was later reported that the fan had suffered a heart attack and was in an induced coma.

Only the 35th minute the action finally got started when Dan Jones drilled a beautiful cross into the area after wonderful interplay with Dan Gardner for Sylvan Ebanks-Blake put the Spireites ahead with a nicely taken close-range finish six yards out.

Both teams returned after the break to play out a disappointing early part of the second half. This saw the Spireites change formation and use striker Lee Novak at right midfield and leave Sylvan Ebanks-Blake up front on his own.

Then with 72 minutes gone on the visitors equalised with an Dominic Poleon scored from just six yards after Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee fumbled a long range shot.

With just three minutes remaining normal time remained the away team took the lead with a strike from range fumbled by goalkeeper Tommy Lee into the back of his own net to dampen sprites even more on this bleak occasion.
