Saunders: I need to get the squad rotation right - I have to utilise what we have got

Dean Saunders: ''I need to get the squad rotation right'' ''I have to utilise what we have got''

Chesterfield manager Dean Saunders looks set to shuffle the pack for the League Cup tie away at Carlisle. He will be hoping to get the balance right as Chesterfield look to progress into the second-round of the League Cup having lost the last eight successive League Cup first-round matches.

One player who may be set for rotation is Spireites favourite Drew Talbot who was taken off after 75 minutes against Barnsley.

Commenting on Talbot, Saunders revealed ''He's not injured, I've got to be careful with him that I don't push him to hard''

The player who could be set to replace Drew Talbot is Charlie Raglan. Having just penned a new contract keeping with the Spireites until summer 2017, Raglan will be looking to impress once more and push for a first team spot. Raglan may come in as starting right back or we may see Sam Hird pushed into the right back position and Raglan partnering Ian Evatt in the centre of defence.

Striker Armand Gnanduillet looks likely to feature after his impressive pre-season with Dean Saunders commenting that it was just a tactical decision that Gnanduillet didn't start against Barnsley.
Another player coming off a strong pre-season is Mani Dieseruvwe with the twenty year old, big, strong striker coming into goal scoring form. He has been often deployed on the left wing but will be hoping for more opportunities in a centre forward role. The league cup may offer this to Mani.

Other youngsters not far from the first team include Jake Orrell who scored against Burnley and Michael Onovwigun who has also impressed in pre-season.

The more experienced Ritchie Humphreys and Byron Harrison will also be in contention as well as new goalkeeper signing Alex Cairns, who will be waiting for the chance to make his debut for the Spireites. However Welshman Saunders insists ''I won't be making to many changes'' ''I have to try and get the balance right."

Carlisle manager Keith Curle is looking to find winning ways after drawing 1-1 with Mansfield in their opener of the season. "This is a game I will take very seriously." "I want us to win every game we play. I can’t pick and choose results but I can tell you we will be competitive.'' He continued "It won’t be a weakened team because I don’t think we have a weak squad.''
