Spireite Gazette predicted line up : vs Sheffield United
Chesterfield find themselves third in the league coming into the derby game against Sheffield United after an impressive second half performance against Barnsley last Saturday. The blades on the other-hand are bottom of Sky Bet League One after a disastrous start, losing 4-0 to Gillingham.
The Spireites are delighted to welcome new addition Lee Novak on loan from Birmingham City on a season long loan. Novak has been used in a verity of roles by the Blues, in his last 20 games he has played twelve at left midfield, once at right midfield, twice as an attacking midfielder and four times as a striker.
If Novak is thrown straight in we could see him used on the left of a front three, with Gboly Ariyibi used on the right side and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake the focal point of the attack. This would see Jay O'Shea and Ollie Banks playing a higher central midfield role with Sam Morsy used in a deeper role to protect the back four, the same tactic that was used to great effect in the second half against Barnsley.
It's also possible we could see Novak used the in the role that was vacated after Sam Clucas' move to Hull for 1.3 million at the end of July. This would see the Spireites playing a traditional 4-4-2 and/or 4-4-1-1 formation.
Dan Gardner, Gboly Ariyibi and Ollie Banks seem the players most at risk of losing their starting places with the arrival of match fit Novak. Of the four Dan Gardner was the only player to play 120 minutes on Tuesday, with Ariyibi playing 81, Novak a full 90 and Banks 96 minutes.
Ariyibi is the current form player of the three it may come down to if Dean Saunders wants to use him from the start of as an impact sub later in the game.
A player who will miss out is Mani Dieseruvwe who starts a three-match ban. Byron Harrison faces a late fitness test to see if he will be able to take part against the Blades.
Spireite Gazette predicted line up:
Subs: Cairns (gk), Raglan, Humphreys, Onovwigun, Gardner, Orrell, Gnanduillet
Other available squad: Wright (gk), Maguire, Donohue, Beesley, Simons, Harrison
