Ched Evans
Chesterfield FC have quashed all talk of the Spireites signing Ched Evans by giving Sky Sports a definite NO in relation to signing ex Sheffield United and convicted rapist Ched Evans.
The Spireites don't need Evans, the Spireites have a very settled dressing room with great characters and good discipline. I doubt Paul Cook would want to unsettle this with a signing of Evans.
Chesterfield are a well liked club currently, with our nice new stadium, good manager, hard working players, playing attractive football. Chesterfield have reached two JPT finals and have done as underdogs, both times offering lots of courageous spirit, this has made them well liked by football fans of other teams.
Evans would grap the headlines, he would be the focus, Chesterfield's results would become about Ched Evans and Paul Cook does not want that, when a player for Chesterfield is in good form or bad form Paul Cook doesn't single them out, they are a team, not individuals.
Chesterfield are not a dirty team, they play with lots of passion but they don't cheat or play ugly. Chesterfield have a well liked manager who is forging great links with other clubs and managers. The Spireites are well liked by other teams for their passing style and playing good attacking, attractive football.
The Spireites don't need a player who hasn't played at a good level since April 2012. They don't need to carry an unfit striker with the pressure of the world on him. With Shane Nicholson Chesterfield have a great fitness coach, one of the best, every player at Chesterfield is fit and it only takes one player to not press as hard or try as hard to let the whole team down.
Ched was a great player, he scored 35 goals in the 2010/2011 season. He had great ability, but Chesterfield don't need to take that risk. We don't need any players with huge reputations and inflated egos. I'm sure that Paul Cook will find us a striker and probably we'll say ''who's he'' but in Paul Cook we trust.
I think it's again a massive achievement for Dave Allen, Chris Turner and Paul Cook that we all knew we would never sign Evans, it shows what a great club we have become.
