FA Youth Cup
Tonight Chesterfield youth team travel to Leicester City's King Power stadium in the 4th round of the FA Youth Cup.
Last season saw the youth team exit the FA Youth Cup against Hereford in the second round, this was the last season of players that weren't signed by Paul Cook's staff. Chesterfield FC and Paul Cook have only kept one of our own youngsters, Jack Broadhead, in the last two years, who he signed very early on. The last two years have seen every other youth player being released.
Some youngsters remain from that defeat at Hereford. The likes of Joe Massey, Jake Beesley, Lewis Sugden and Jordan Walshaw all played in the team that played against Aston Villa. All of these players have made great progression at there time at Chesterfield FC. Mason Coy, Clint Morrison, Tope Fowodu and Laurence Maguire have all been long term fixtures in the youth team set up and all will be hoping to impress and hope that this is not there last experience of a grand stadium like Leicester's, rather the first of many.
Laurence Maguire, brother of Hull City's Harry Maguire and high flying Ilkeston FC Joe Maguire who is club captain there, is likely to captain the Spireites side and hope that he can achieve somewhere near his brothers success.
Development squad goalkeeper Myles Wright will be hoping to keep a clean sheet. The Chesterfield defensive unit currently have the best record in their division. Hopefully the defence can hold firm tonight.
Whatever happens the Youth Team have done the club proud, the squad has great togetherness and will need all their team spirit to get a result tonight.
Here's how Leicester got into the fourth round.
and Chesterfield's highlights against Aston Villa.
Lets hope Mark Smith's team can get another spirited win and keep the cup dream alive for the youth team. Hopefully this can be the platform for some of the youngsters to push onto careers in the football leagues, we wish them luck!
