Daniel Johnson
Could Daniel Johnson be available to The Spireites?
Oldham manager Lee Johnson has spoken to the Oldham Chronicle about the potential signing of 22 year old Daniel Johnson.
''Talks are ongoing. There are a number of factors at play'' Said Oldham manager Lee Johnson
''Can we afford what he would want, wage wise, do Aston Villa want a fee and what about the other interested parties''
With the potential outgoing of Eoin Doyle this would free up a lot of money to improve the Chesterfield squad and young Johnson, who won player of the month back in October, could be a fantastic start.
With Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday looking to be out priced for the Irishman. Sheffield United having a 650k bid turned down.
Millwall and Celtic seemingly uninterested in taking the 26 year old and Derby having already signed Darren Bent. It could come down to Burnley, Reading FC or Cardiff City to make a bid for Doyle.
The unfortunate thing about the money for Doyle having to be used for Johnson is the superb link up between the two. Many have put Doyle's early scoring rate down to Johnson getting the ball to Doyle in superb goalscoring positions. If Doyle is sold and there is no guarantees, could his potential replacement work well with Johnson? I'm sure Paul Cook will already be thinking of replacements, one being Gary Martin - on his second trial at Chesterfield.
Martin has stated he liked to work off a big striker, could he adjust his game to play with DJ? Would Martin, DJ and Armand all have to play together?
Johnson would be a great option and I'm sure Chesterfield would be very interest if Aston Villa make the youngster available
