Chesterfield Youth were without captain and centerback Laurence Maguire ( @lozmaguire1997) who was suspended for the visit of Grimsby Town Youth. Chesterfield would go top with a win against the Mariners.

Chief executive Chris Turner and head scout Paul Mitchell were also in attendance.

The first 15 minutes saw the two teams settle into the game before Chesterfield took the upper hand and dominated the possession earning a few early corners and free kicks.

Martell Daswell looked dangerous early on, the tricky attacking midfielder was the early threat playing just behind striker Jack Beesley.

Beesley is a player known by Spireites fans and he led the line wonderfully, using his height and intelligence to win the majority his headers and used his pace and acceleration to get in behind the Grimsby defence.

The tireless effort of midfield duo of Mason Coy and Lewis Sugden put Chesterfield into a strong position with Jordan Warshaw and Derek Daly giving them the edge over the Grimsby Town midfield.

Coy looked superbly comfortable on the ball and on the half hour mark, superbly floated a curling effort into the corner of the Mariners goal from just outside the box.

This settled the Spireites who always looked comfortable at this point but they failed to put away chances and kill off the game in the first half.

The Spireites came out in the second half and soon found themselves on top once more. With lovely passing interplay, Jordan Warshaw picked up the ball on the edge of the Grimsby box and with a perfectly aimed shot, smashed the ball into the top corner putting the Spireites up 2-0.

Chesterfield youth keeper Myles Wright was almost untested during the match and looked composed and mature for his years, with great talking and awareness.

A lot of the reason Wright was not really tested was the superb leadership from right back Joe Massey. The calm full back organised and led the defensive line with his fantastic work rate and solid tackling.

Great commitment was shown by all the team, with a special mention to the Chesterfield number 17, Jack Tuite, who is on loan from Derby, who left the game with a broken nose. All the back four constantly committed fully to all of their challenges with the protection of Coy and Sugden they proved a very solid unit.

In the end it was a steady victory for the Spireites youngsters with some impressive performances, especially from Coy and Massey. Chesterfield dominated in all areas of the pitch and the togetherness of this bunch of youngsters is clear to see. This result sees Chesterfield go top of the North East Youth Alliance.
