Player Ratings - Preston

Lee - 6 - Not a lot more Tommy could have done, will be disappointed both goals came from crosses into the area.


Darikwa - 6 - A steady game by the Chesterfield right back but had a hard time having to get forward and back. Often had to mark two men without a winger protecting him.


Jones - N/A - Nothing much worse than being the player that has to make way for a red card. Unfortunately for Jones he seems to be the first pick for an early substitute.


Hird - N/A - With hindsight maybe should have just left Garner shoot at goal, but this goes against everything a defender should do.


Evatt - 7 - Very unfortunate to be the player that the linesman said played Garner onside. A fairly good performance by the captain who has got his jersey back in the first team.


Morsy - 5 - Found himself a frustrated figure, not many options on for him. Morsy, Ryan and O'Shea often found themselves playing in the same area on the pitch and therefore not outlet.


Ryan - 7 - Jimmy had to do a lot of running. Looked a threat when going forward but unable to break though the Preston defence. Great effort.

Clucas - 6 - Found himself back at left back and put in a good shift. Had the same problem as Darikwa out numbered defending and attacking.


O'Shea - 5 - Jay had to play a role that he doesn't enjoy doing. He has never been a hard tackling box to box midfielder and found himself on top of Morsy and Ryan.

Harrison - 5 - Byron didn't seem to enjoy the game at all, didn't enjoy being a target man and doesn't seem very well drilled in Paul Cook's pressing style. When he did get the ball at his feet he did have some nice touches and will be hoping to improve. Must be disappointed to miss a close range effort.


Lavery - 5 - Didn't suit Lavery's style, he tried to press but didn't have enough support to make this pay off. Looks a quality player when he drops into the channels and into pockets, hopefully we can get the best from him before he is re-called to Wednesday.






Subs

Raglan - 6 - Raglan didn't find himself out of the team very long. Gained a lot of experience marking players like Kevin Davies and again didn't look at all out of his depth.


Duffy - 5 - Can certainly cope at this level. Never going to enjoy a game where the ball is mainly in the air but did win a couple of headers despite his height.


Mani - 5 - Came in a bit late in the game to impress and then found himself against 3 good league one centre backs. Still young and will have much better days.
