Transfers: Dean Saunders Shopping List?

We take a closer look at some potential transfer targets for Spireites boss Dean Saunders;

Curtis Obeng

The 26 year old defender was born in Stretford, Greater Manchester and began his career with the Manchester City youth system. After impressing the Manchester City hierarchic Obeng penned a two-year professional contract in 2007, during this time at City he made 4 appearances for the England U19 side.

Following his release at the end of the 2008/09 season he signed a two-year contract with Dean Saunders' Conference National side, Wrexham, where he remained until January deadline day 2012 when Obeng moved to Premier League club Swansea City on a three-and-a-half-year contract for a fee in the region of £200,000. Obeng is currently a free agent after his release from the Premiership side this summer. Dean Saunders speaks highly of the former England U19 and could be the man to reignite his career.

Anthony Wordsworth

Dean Saunders went on record last season saying: ''Losing (on loan) Richard Wood and Anthony Wordsworth relegated Crawley Town''. Wordsworth, 26, is a 6 foot 1 midfielder with an eye for goal who has played for Colchester, Ipswich Town, Rotherham United and Crawley Town. He started his career at Colchester United where he graduated from the youth system to the first team, making nearly 200 appearances in an eight-year spell with the club. In 2013 he signed for Ipswich Town on a 2 1⁄2-year deal. Wordsworth has played 18 times for Ipswich scoring twice. During his time with the tractor boys he has been loaned to Rotherham where he played 6 times scoring once and last season to Crawley where he played 18 games, scoring 4.

Richard Woods

The 6 foot 3 defender, 29, born in Ossett, West Yorkshire. Wood came up through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday and started to support The Owls instead. Woods went on to play 174 times for the Owls before joining Coventry where he played a further 112 times.Woods has had short spells at Charlton, Rotherham and Crawley and may look to leave the Millers after only playing 6 times for the South Yorkshire outfit.

Jacob Mellis

Mellis, 24, is a 5 foot 10 midfielder born in Nottingham. He started his career as a trainee with Sheffield United, before joining Premier League club Chelsea for £1 million in June 2007. He was a member of the Chelsea team that reached the final of the FA Youth Cup under manager Paul Clement in 2008. Mellis has made starts for England U16, U17 and U19. In March 2012, Mellis was sacked by Chelsea after setting off a smoke grenade at the club's Cobham Training Centre. Mellis went on to agreed a two-year deal with Championship side Barnsley. Following Barnsley's relegation to League One in 2014, Mellis was offered a new contract at Oakwell but he turned it down and subsequently left the club. Last season Mellis was relegated from the Championship once more with Blackpool. Now a free agent he will be looking to reach his potential.

Billy Paynter

Billy Paynter is only 30 but has played 470 games and scored 112 goals. Paynter was top scorer during the 2012/13 promotion season for Doncaster Rovers where he signed after impressing Dean Saunders on trial. Saunders is well aware of Paynters ability to score goals and would be able to pick him up fairly cheaply as he is currently transfer listed by Carlisle manager Keith Curle after a public fall out.

Dean Saunders is aware of Chettle's talent, who has been on the radar of Spireites chief scout Paul Mitchell for some time. Callum is the son of Nottingham Forest legend Steve Chettle who was at Forest between 1983 and 1999. While at Nottingham Forest, Chettle Snr played 10 seasons with current Chesterfield FC goalkeeping coach Mark Crossley.

He scored 15 times in 68 appearances during his time as Wrexham. Pogba then moved onto Crewe Alexandra where he scored 17 goals in 56 appearances in League One before joining Serie B side Pescara. Following his release from Pescara he was again picked him by Dean Saunders for a second time in his career to join him at Crawley Town where he played 17 times.
