Introducing Brian Carey and Mal Purchase, Dean Saunders dream team - Here's a quick introduction on the new Spireite management pair.
After impressing at Cork City, Carey was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson for Manchester United on 24 August 1989 and he stayed there for four years. Carey then moved on to Leicester City where he played under managers Brian Little and Martin O'Neill. Leicester is where he first met Chesterfield CEO Chris Turner who was reserve team coach under manager Mark McGhee.
Carey then moved to Wrexham. His time at the Racecourse Ground spanned over nine years, where he was captain and virtually an ever present under manager Brian Flynn. Flynn was the Wales under 21 boss for the current generation of Wales success managing players like Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey and pushing them onto the first team. Following his retirement as a player through injury in July 2005, he remained at Wrexham as a coach.
When Dean Saunders became Wrexham manager in October 2008, Carey was given the role of assistant manager.Carey then followed Saunders when he moved to Doncaster Rovers of the Championship in September 2011, again as his assistant manager. The duo saw the club relegated but assembled their own team for the 2012/13 campaign and by January the team were top of the league. Carey was again employed by his good friend Dean Saunders when he was offered the managerial job at Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2013.
Carey has most recently been working for Blackburn Rovers as their under 18's coach.
Purchase is a hard working fitness and conditioning coach who likes to get his players in good shape.
