Follow up bid likely for Darikwa

On Tuesday we learnt of the news that Chesterfield Player Of The Season Tendayi Darikwa had handed in a transfer request to the Spireites.

By Wednesday it was officially confirmed by Chesterfield FC that a bid for the 23 year old, right back had been turned down. With Chris Turner stating that the bid was ''well short of our valuation of him''

Darikwa joined Chesterfield after leaving school at 16. Darikwa was spotted by a Chesterfield scout while playing football for Nottingham team, Ruddington Coltsmade. He was then offered a two-year scholarship and later a professional contract.

Since then Darikwa has gone on to play 125 games for the Spireites over a 5 year period.

Preston North End boss Simon Grayson told BBC Lancs Sport ''It's no secret that right back is a position that we've made a bid for a player''

''The other clubs valuation is higher than ours at this moment in time, do we go back in? We'll wait and see''

''The player has made it aware that he wants to play at a higher level with the transfer request that's gone in''

Interest in Darikwa is high with Leeds and Wigan also reported to be interested in the right back.

We'll wait and see
