Roberts Bid Rejected

Chesterfield FC have rejected an initial bid for midfielder Gary Roberts for an undisclosed fee by Portsmouth FC, a move that would reunite him with former Spireite manager Paul Cook.

Current Chesterfield manager Dean Saunders is an admirer of Roberts, a player he has tried to sign before and is wanting to keep at the Spireites, so won't be keen on letting the midfielder leave on the cheap.

Saunders: "Gary Roberts I've always admired, I tried to sign him at Donny, I had him at the stadium he went a signed for Swindon"

Roberts is reported to be the biggest earner at Chesterfield FC but has more than repaid his fee leading the Sky Bet League 2 assist table in 2014 as well as winning Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Year at The Football League Awards.

His productivity has been equally as impressive this season where he has scored 8 goals and earned 10 assists as the Spireites reached the League One play-offs.

A follow up bid is expected.
