Speculation is a massive compliment to Cook

It's the 21st of January and with only a couple of tweaks to the squad, Chesterfield have gone on with business as usual. Flying high in the league and in the FA Cup, it's quite a season for Chesterfield FC.

Eoin Doyle is still a Spireite - as are all the prize assets.

But, the window has been anything but a quiet one! Paul Cook has some real gems at Chesterfield, Charlie Raglan is just 21 years old, Tendayi Darkiwa is 23, Sam Morsy also 23, Sam Clucas 24 and even Eoin Doyle is just 26. These are all players improving every week and rightfully attracting interesting from top Championship teams and even speculation from Premiership teams.

Sometimes this speculation can be seen as a distraction, but if you have top players this will continue to happen. Chesterfield players are no longer journey men linked with struggling league two sides. The Spireites don't have any has beens on big wages looking for their next move. These are top quality players linked with top quality sides.

This is a huge compliment to Paul Cook and his transfer policy and ethos of the club. Chesterfield don't just have one asset, they have lots of them and the transfer speculation proves this.

Paul Cook, Chris Turner and the staff have put Chesterfield in a strong position. Liam Cooper being sold put them in an even stronger position, they can set the price of their players and don't have to sell to the first bid. Liam Cooper is still a fans favourite, leaving on good terms making great money for the future of the club.

Teams are now out-priced for Chesterfield players, they want them - but they can't get them. It's on Chesterfield's terms now and Paul Cook has put the club in a very good place. The club is flying and long may this continue.

In Paul Cook we trust.
